The Wanted: X-Cheerleaders Project began as a group of performers — mostly dancers and all ex-cheerleaders — who decided to take the ultra-gendered role of cheerleading and turn it on its head (literally and figuratively). Working with public school girls and low-income working women, incarcerated women and community organizations, the group leads workshops on women's and girls' issues and works with them to create empowering cheers for themselves.
